• i was a cub scout Pink Squares / Echoes (2nd 7", £2.00)

    label: abeano

Hotly-tipped Nottingham duo I Was A Cub Scout return with this double A-side single. Having originally been released in November 2006, ‘Pink Squares’ has been reworked with Hugh Padgham on production duties (The Police/Phil Collins) and sees them at their most epic sounding to date, with Todd Marriot’s gorgeous refrain of “Am I in trouble / Darling I apologise / I need you more than anything / please come back in to my life”. New song ‘Echoes’, meanwhile, comes crashing in on a wave of pounding, frenetic drums and features backing vocals from pop-punk outfit Tonight Is Goodbye as well as Sam Scott from post-rockers Youthmovies playing trumpet. It’s without doubt one of the most ambitious sounding tracks I Was A Cub Scout have produced.
