• brookes brothers Tear You Down (12", £5.75)

    label: breakbeat kaos

If there was a prize for the most musically sound drum ’n’ bass then surely it would go to the Brookes Brothers who mark the end of the summer 2008 with another beautiful release. As classically trained musicians (these guys even store their samples by key) we’re always guaranteed the utmost quality and here is no different. Kicking off the 12" is the soaring vocal-led ’Tear You Down’ that gets the dance floor smiling every time. It’s a disco-tinged rollercoaster ride that oozes rich, warm summer vibes that are typical of the Brookes Brothers' melodic approach. Once the vocal hook and piano stabs are in your head you won’t be able to shake this one for a very long time. This is a party-time D&B! Keeping the production values riding high on the flip is ’Drifter’ with its crispy 2-break and the most gorgeous trumpet breakdown. The drop then takes us away on a rolling journey of surging bass and sweeping strings that envelop the listener and secure this as yet another essential Brookes Brothers release.
