Born Ewart Beckford on 21st September 1942, U-Roy was nicknamed “The Originator” and was the pioneer of toasting, which many say was the earliest form of rapping over music. His music career started in 1961 when he began rapping over popular songs remixed by dub music pioneer, the great King Tubby. Once working with Duke Reid, U Roy’s fame grew even more, with hits including “Wake the Town” and “Wear You to the Ball”. This album features 30 of his finest hits from the vaults of Treasure Isle.
