• sennen Age of Denial (CD, £8.75)

    label: Hungry Audio

Sennen, "the bafflingly underrated Norwich band" (Sunday Times), "noisy tunesmiths" (Rocksound) and "Norwich's finest noisemongers" (NME), have been producing uncorrupted, oddly schizophrenic, patient pop music for some time now, proudly riding in the slipstreams of Spaceman 3, Mercury Rev and Teenage Fanclub, yet with the release of 'Age of Denial' there is a danger of all that rippling out of their fens. 'Age of Denial' is a remarkable package of dreamy pop music sitting perfectly within their trademark invigorating shoegaze sound. Sennen have always been capable of abruptly changing musical lanes from startlingly beautiful, dual harmony pop to powerful, hypnotic anthems of infused noise but this album has defined why they have continued to earn themselves respect. Sennen make the sort of dream pop that all bands with banks of distortion pedals should at least try and achieve.
