    label: Broken Sound

This is debut EP by The Mariner's Children, a 7-piece band including members of friends' bands Laura Marling, Peggy Sue, Alessi's Ark and Sons Of Noel And Adrian. Their sound draws on their influences and sees an alliance with the immense instrumentation of Arcade Fire, yet not set apart from the subtleties of the likes of Iron & Wine and Bonnie Prince Billy. The songs drift from sparse, delicate understatement to thunderous intensity in the blink of an eye. "We can hear a swelling energy as the music moves from folkish intimacy towards a more dynamic spaciousness. They create something using accordions, mandolins, harps, guitars and drums with the visceral attack of rock and the rhythmic propulsion and thrilling momentum of dance" - The Guardian. Recorded at 2kHz Studios - a converted church - and produced by Ian Grimble (Communion, The Manic Street Preachers, Beth Orton, McAlmont & Butler).
