• bored man overboard Rogue (CD, £8.25)

    label: Hazelwood

"Since you are people with great taste in music, we hope that you'll like this tune," is how Bored Man Overboard shyly introduce themselves. The seven-member collective from Stockholm, Sweden, play indie-folk-rock, balancing between minimalist acoustic and driving orchestral arrangements. After two gripping EPs, they released the Sinner Song EP in the fall of 2009, whose title track was used in the trailer for the US-TV series Dexter. The press describes them as "the Swedish National", "a slowed-down version of The Gaslight Anthem" and "the Scandinavian Arcade Fire". A first concert tour (in collaboration with Efterklang & Royal Bangs) quickly became a much-discussed secret recommendation on the web. We agree with the opinion of one blogger: "This band is amazing. Give them lots of love." Their debut album Rogue - on people, resignation, and wine - has been taken up by Kaneoka One (Daniel Johnston, The Audience, King Khan, etc.) last summer and will be released internationally in Spring 2011 at Hazelwood Vinyl Plastics / Rough Trade. "Bored Man Overboard excite audiences with a great artistic range from quiet acoustic folk to rock and swirling orchestral arrangements. Fast-paced and epic, poignant and euphoric - recalling the best moments of Arcade Fire" Pop100
