• drywater Backbone of the Nation (digipak CD, £12.25)

    label: Gearfab

Here's a CD-reissue of a massively cool and hideously rare 1973 rural Pennsylvania private press jewel, originally released on the RPC custom label in a run of only 25 copies. This is small town working class teen ethos expressed with raw precision, and with no hippie hangover or arty posturing. The sound is split between the two dominate modes of polarised male youth psyche, alternating moody, dejected, love scorned melancholy folkrock with wasted, howling, proto-punk garage fuzz brain fry. And there's lots of fuzzed out guitar, luxurious 12-string guitar delight and driving drumming! The CD comes in a 4-page cover with lots of band photos.
